About This Collection

1950s Jackets & Coats

1950s coats and jackets were made to make an entrance. The silhouette followed the dress underneath: fitted at the waist for the New Look, full or swinging at the hem to sit over a circle skirt. Our 1950s style jackets and coats are designed in-house and made in Yorkshire: fitted New Look jackets, a cropped wool jacket, a swing coat and a couture long coat.

1950s jacket and coat styles

  • Fitted New Look jackets, such as our Renee and Lilian, nip in at the waist and sit at the hip, and are designed to pair with a full or pencil skirt.
  • The cropped jacket is a short, cropped shape in wool that suits a high-waisted skirt or a dress with a fitted bodice.
  • Swing coats flare from the shoulder, so they sit over a full skirt or petticoat without crushing it.
  • The couture long coat is the glamorous option for the coldest months, cut to sit elegantly over your best outfit.

A wiggle dress looks especially good under a swing coat, so pair yours with a 1950s dress or a skirt. Want a matching set? Take a look at our 1950s suits.
