About This Collection

Vintage Trousers & Shorts

Old-fashioned trousers, or vintage pants if you are searching from the States, go by plenty of names: swing trousers, Hepburn and Marlene trousers after the film stars who wore them, sailor pants, plus fours and breeches. They share the same bones: a high waist, a wide or full leg and a fastening at the side, cut to be worn with a tucked-in top. Ours are reproductions of original patterns, designed in-house and adapted for the modern figure.

Vintage trousers by style

  • Swing and Hepburn trousers: wide-legged, turned up at the hem and made for dancing. See 1940s trousers.
  • Marlene trousers and sailor pants: the androgynous tailoring of Marlene Dietrich, including a wool chalk stripe, and very wide sailor slacks. See 1930s trousers and sailor style.
  • Plus fours, breeches and ski pants: the country and sporting pieces, in wool, check and corduroy. Women were photographed in plus fours for outdoor pursuits from the 1920s, and the Land Girl style collection has the breeches.
  • Shorts and culottes: 1930s pleated shorts in natural fibres, a perfect fit for a 1930s or 1940s summer wardrobe, and pleated culottes made for cycling and sport. Vintage 1930s style shorts tells you more.
