1950s Renee Jacket in Black

Presenting our reimagined and dreamy 'New Look' dress jacket which pays homage to Christian Dior's iconic post war silhouette. A stunning panelled jacket that nips in at the waist and has padding under the front hip for extra oomph to create that iconic hourglass silhouette. We've named her Renee after the model from the 1947 photographs which launched this new collection.

A bit of context...Presented in Feb 1947, The 'New Look' marked a turning point in fashion history and set the course for post-war fashion. Dior's curvier silhouette represented a return to ultimate femininity after the austerity of the war years. Whilst this couldn't be adopted by the average dresser until well in the 1950s, it did herald an aspirational style and set the course of fashion.

This jacket has been in the pipeline for a while and since this labour of lover is now perfected - we now proudly release it to our foxy folk. 

Tailoring is one of our designer's favourite projects - we love how the garment masterly forms the silhouette through the use of padding and panels. This jacket is fully tailored in 8 panels which skim the body and cinches the waist. Strong shoulders are created with twin pads which further emphasise the waist and a clever vintage trick of the era is the padding beneath the hip.

We chose a curved feminine collar shape for the jacket lapels and this is mirrored in the pocket flaps at the hip. Please note - these are faux pockets to keep the time (and hence price) down. Six shell buttons were chosen to emulate many of the 1950s jackets - since this was a mark of the end of rationing.

This jacket has been carefully crafted by skilled machinists from Yorkshire, England in a heavy crepe fabric and lined in top quality satin.

Pairs with the 1950s Premium Circle Skirt to finish the look.
