About This Collection

1950s Tops & Blouses

The fitted sweater and the neat blouse were made to be tucked into a full skirt or a pencil skirt, and that combination defined 1950s daywear. Our 1950s tops and blouses are made in Yorkshire to our own designs: lace and georgette blouses, knitted scoop-neck tops and bow jersey styles, cut to sit at the waist.

The sweater girl look

The fitted sweater first appeared in the 1940s and stayed popular through the 1950s, evolving from the turtleneck into the twin-set. The 1950s sweater girl look was built around a high, rounded bust and a snug waist. Our knitted tops and jersey styles bring that shape to a modern fit, without the need for a bullet bra.

1950s blouse styles

  • Lace blouses such as our Merle, in ivory, black or desert lace, are perfect for evenings and special occasions.
  • Georgette and printed blouses, like the Lola, are softer and floatier, ideal under a jacket or with a circle skirt.
  • Knitted and jersey tops in scoop-neck and bow styles are the easiest 50s style tops to wear every day.

Tuck your top into a circle or pencil skirt for the classic 1950s shape, or wear it under a 1950s suit jacket. Our 1950s style guide explains the sweater girl look in more detail, and there are more ideas in our 1950s fashion collection. Sizes run from a UK 8 to an 18, and a few styles go up to 24.
