About This Collection

Vintage Tops & Blouses

A vintage top is cut to be tucked in. Blouses from the 1930s to the 1970s were made to sit at the natural waist, with the interest at the neckline, shoulder and sleeve, so one good blouse can lift a plain skirt or a pair of trousers. Ours are reproductions of original designs, mostly in rayon crepe with some georgette, cotton and knit styles, so you get the shape and detail of a vintage blouse without having to nurse a fragile original.

Vintage blouses by decade

  • 1930s: pussy bows, tie necks, frills, wrap fronts and sailor collars, softly fussy in the best way. See 1930s tops and blouses.
  • 1940s: sweetheart necklines, bishop sleeves, keyhole necks and a little shoulder structure. See 1940s tops and blouses.
  • 1950s: fitted and feminine, from lace and check blouses to knot-front and scoop-neck knits that sit neatly over a pencil skirt. See 1950s tops and blouses.
  • 1970s: the 70s blouse means wrap tops, point-collar shirts and peasant blouses with poet sleeves. See 1970s tops and blouses.

How to wear a vintage top

Tuck it into a high-waisted vintage skirt or a pair of wide-leg vintage trousers, and add a jacket or a cardigan when it turns cool. If you prefer a roomier fit, the blouses with extra blouson collection is cut with more fullness through the body. Our guide to 1940s blouses covers fabrics and styling in more detail, and the vintage style guides show how each decade wore them. Most styles come in UK sizes 8 to 18, and many go up to 24; the size guide will help you choose.
