1960s Dresses
Our 1960s dresses cover both moods of the decade: the polished, hourglass cocktail dresses and Jackie O dress-and-jacket sets of the early 1960s, and the playful Mod mini dress of Carnaby Street. They are designed in-house and made in Britain, in stretch bengaline, crepe and brocade, with the details that give 1960s style dresses their edge: jewel and scoop necklines, ruched cummerbunds and pencil skirts.
1960s cocktail dresses
The early 1960s cocktail dress was formfitting without being tight, in rich fabrics and deep colours that would have been unthinkable in the pastels of the 1950s. Our Manhattan cocktail dress captures the look: a wide scoop neckline, cap sleeves, a gold brocade cummerbund that creates the era's flattering 'shelf' bust, and a figure-hugging pencil skirt with a back vent. It is a 1960s party dress for weddings, cocktail parties and any occasion that needs a little Mad Men glamour.
Jackie O dress and jacket sets
No-one defined the early 60s look more completely than Jacqueline Kennedy. Our Jackie O sets pair a sleeveless jewel-neck dress, nipped in with a ruched cummerbund, with a short-waisted jacket adapted from an original period pattern. Just add pearls and heels. Browse the sets in our 1960s suits.
The Mod mini dress
By the mid-60s, London had become the fashion capital and the look was young, graphic and short. Our Carnaby mini dress, in its Biba Bloom print, has an empire line, a softly flared A-line skirt, a high collar and long sleeves with tuck detail: bohemian, playful and very Mod. For more of the Biba look, see the Ossie Clark and Biba collection.
