1940s Prim Pleated Skirt - Fawn Corduroy
For the quality seekers...One of our favourite 1940s silhouettes has had a rather gorgeous autumn makeover! Our 'Prim & Proper' Pleated Skirt returns in sumptuous corduroy.
The rich, tactile fabric gives that beautifully full 1940s shape a little more structure and weight, while those soft velvety ribs bring depth, texture and a wonderfully luxurious feel.
It’s heritage dressing made for autumn - pair her with knits, blouses and boots for crisp days ahead. A very special limited edition, and one we’re particularly excited for you Foxies to feel for yourselves. Cut from the same British mill corduroy as our 1930s Ski Jacket, both in matching Fawn, for a coordinated vintage countryside look
At first glance, this skirt appears rather 'sensible' in nature - a practical length, straight lines in style and easy to walk in due to the front pleats.
However, this is a real head turning skirt that creates an elegant and sassy silhouette. The fitted waist cinches, the slim cut hugs and moulds the hips and the slight flare from the knees creates a hint of a fishtail.
Who knew...? This may evolve into one of our new staples. Pairs with blouses, knitwear, jersey and transitions from daywear to night out in a flash! Fawn joins the Prim range, also available in Maroon Corduroy, as well as Red Natural Fibre and wool options.
Key features:-
- fitted waist band
- back zip and button fastening
- 2 front inverted pleats
- lined
Approximate measurements size UK 10:
Length of skirt from natural waist to hem - Approx 28"
Fabric 100% cotton corduroy from Brisban Moss, UK / 100% polyester lining
Dry clean only
What silhouette does the Prim Pleated Skirt have?
A fitted waist and slim cut that hugs and moulds the hips, with a slight flare from the knee that hints at movement without a full fishtail hem.
What are the front inverted pleats?
Two pleats folded so their fabric meets at the centre rather than facing outward - a neat, structured pleat that adds ease at the hem without extra bulk at the hip.
What other 1930s/40s styles feature this pleated silhouette?
Inverted front pleats were a recurring tailoring technique across 1930s and 1940s skirts and dresses - favoured because they add fullness and ease of movement at the hem without the bulk of a gathered or box pleat, making them practical for wartime and utility-era dressing as well as elegant daywear. You'll find the same principle across House of Foxy's wider vintage skirts range.
What does the Prim Pleated Skirt pair with?
It's cut from the same British mill corduroy as House of Foxy's 1930s Ski Jacket, both available in matching Fawn - or soften the look with the Marina Sweater in Ivory tucked in at the waist.
