About This Collection

1930s Skirts

A good 1930s skirt did two things: it fitted smoothly over the hip and it moved. Our 1930s skirts, made in our own Yorkshire factory, follow that rule with swirling and flutter-hem shapes, Art Deco panelling and softly flared silhouettes, plus neat pleated styles in wool, corduroy and natural fibres.

What length is a 1930s skirt?

Mid-calf. Day skirts of the decade fell to the lower calf, fitted at the waist and hips and released into a flare through gores, panels or pleats. That length gives the silhouette its elegance, and it works just as well today with ankle boots or heels.

What to wear with a 1930s skirt

Pair it with a 1930s blouse tucked in at the natural waist, such as a tie-neck, wrap or crepe blouse, and finish with a beret or a silk scarf. For a matching look, browse our 1930s suits or add a tailored jacket. UK sizes 8 to 18, with selected styles up to 24. The full story of the decade is in our 1930s style guide.
