Sometimes the nicest surprises arrive completely unexpectedly.
A few weeks ago, a customer got in touch to tell us she'd spotted one of our blouses being worn by Olivia Wilde throughout the new film The Invite. Until that moment, we had absolutely no idea.
The blouse in question is our much-loved Sweetheart Blouse in Duck Egg, and once we'd seen it, there it was – worn throughout the film in a thoroughly modern setting. Not only that - but as a humble, small business operating out of Yorkshire without the kinds of connections and budgets to get noticed- it's been nice to to see our blouse on screen.
As a brand, we're mostly associated with vintage fashion, and understandably so. House of Foxy has always taken inspiration from the beautiful silhouettes and elegant tailoring of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. But what delighted me most about seeing the Sweetheart Blouse on screen was how naturally it sat within a contemporary wardrobe.
It wasn't being worn as a costume.
It wasn't part of a period drama.
It was simply a beautiful blouse being worn by a stylish woman.
And perhaps that's exactly the point...
While our inspiration comes from the past, I've always believed that the best vintage-inspired clothing transcends the decade that inspired it. A well-cut blouse, a flattering pair of trousers or a beautifully shaped knitwear piece should feel just as relevant today as it would have done eighty years ago.
The Sweetheart Blouse has long been one of those pieces for us. The soft neckline, elegant shaping and versatile Duck Egg colour make it easy to wear with everything from tailored trousers and skirts to modern denim. This is one of our longest standing garments and we now produce it in 12 colours!
Over the years, we've been lucky enough to see our customers style House of Foxy in countless different ways. Some embrace a full vintage look, while others mix our pieces effortlessly into contemporary wardrobes. Seeing Olivia Wilde wear the blouse throughout The Invite felt like a lovely reminder that there isn't just one way to wear House of Foxy.
Style evolves, but elegance rarely goes out of fashion.
