A stunning 1940s style cocktail evening dress inspired by the iconic mid century American fashion designer Dorothy O'Hara - mistress of draping and 'glorifying figures'.
Dorothy O'Hara was known for being a designer at Paramount Studios throughout the 1940s but also had her own fashion label which thrived through the late 40s and 50s. Her designs were incrediably flattering with a focus on strong shoulders and a slim hip - using clever draping techniques to enhance and accentuate the female figure.
This dress is inspired by some of her 1940s designs via handling originals and photographs.
The beauty of this dress is how it flatters the figure whilst still being demure. We've used ruching at the hip and on bustline to create shape and interest whilst the ruching at the shoulders gives a strong 1940s silhouette.
Many of you will love the longer sleeves which have shaping darts on the inside elbow and the back zip for ease in getting the dress on. Full faux wrap on skirt.
This dress is potentially more versatile than it seems, wear with black accessories for practical purposes or glam up with some bling and a fancy up do.
Key Features Include:-
- flattering square neckline with ruching
- wrap skirt with flattering hip gathers
- self covered belt
- back zip
- 3 quarter darted sleeves
Proudly made in the UK
Fabric: 100% rayon crepe
Washing instructions: cool hand wash or dry clean
Length from natural waist: approx 27 inches
This dress is semi fitting on hips due to the wrap style skirt - which is fixed on one side into the upper hip side seam. The bust area is fairly generous but is more fitted than it looks. Waist is semi fitted as intention is to nip in further with the belt. For this reason, we strongly suggest that you select your size through the bust measurements.
Feedback tells us that this style suits most shapes.

Stunning cheerful print - perfect for summer. Clever construction - very flattering and so true to the Hollywood glam of the 1940's. Great to have a summer dress with a sleeve - thank you! I would have given 5 stars but I only wish it had a side zip (like my Ingrid dress), to allow for ease of movement.
