The most detailed and authentic dress we have made - to date!
A stunning reproduction late 1930s dress that we have packed with vintage detailing.
This beautiful dress is based on photographs, original vintage patterns and an original dress in our archive. We havent held back in detail here and it really is one of our most intricate dresses. Consequently it takes a long time to make!
A flattering shape, this dress has the key late 1930s features of shoulder yokes, shirring under and above the bustline creating a shapely ruched bust area. A deep V shape with 6 functional self-covered buttons runs through the bodice. Skirt is made of 7 panels to give an authentic shape and is lined.
Shoulders are strong with a pleated sleeve and shoulder roll. Full bishops sleeves finish with a button cuff.
Manufactured in our soft rayon rayon crepe - we have tried to source fabric as close as possible to the original used.

The dress style would be considered a 'tailored fit'.
It is fitted under the bust through to the waist. Due to the gathers above and below bust, there is a little bit more room than on size chart.
Fabric has no stretch in it - so if you are between sizes on waist measurement - it would be advisable to select the size above.
Please refer to the table below as a size guide. The measurements refer to 'your' body not the garment itself. Please choose the size that most reflects your measurements.
If you have purchased our Ava dress before, please choose the same size.

Now ladies, this dress is a must-have. With the 40s Homefront dancing dress, this is the most amazing dress I have ever had for reenactment. It looks like an exact copy of the dress worn by movie star Ginette Leclerc in the classic film noir "Le Corbeau".
And a special mention for the exceptional customer service of House of Foxy : efficient, friendly and helpful !
This beautiful dress was my first ever purchase from The House of Foxy. It is very flattering and so well-made. Initially, I was unsure what size to select. I would normally wear a size 10 but my measurements (aside from the bust) aligned with those recommended for the size 8 on this chart. I sent in an enquiry and was advised to select a size 8. Choosing the size based on my waist measurement turned out to be good advice as the smaller size fits me like a glove. It’s fitted enough at the waist, but I still have plenty of room in the bust and hips. The colour really is lovely and all the little details in the sewing of the garment make it look just like an authentic 1930’s dress. Will definitely be purchasing from The House of Foxy again in the future.
