This is a splendid 1940s ensemble that we have created with Goodwood Revival in mind!
A fabulous edition of our best selling tea dance dress we named after wartime pinup 'Betty Grable'. This is a lovely poppy spray print on black base paired with luxurious black crepe and a matching black crepe bolero lined in the print!
This is the perfect dress for dancing! A most becoming dress with a demure tie neckline - softly shirred into shape with shoulder yokes and gathered under the bust.
This dress has been designed to be as faithful as possible to the 1940s styles. A slimming fit around the waist with elegant short sleeves with a touch of shirring and a sweeping 7-gore skirt to float you through any dance.
New flutter style sleeves that drape the shoulder make this dress perfect for dancing as they do not restrict the upper arm at all.
The bolero is based on the styles of the times as seen in 1940 edition of Sears catalogue (see influence pic). This has a soft roll collar giving a flattering shape and bracelet length sleeves with a cut turnup. The style of this bolero gives the iconic 40s shape - emphasising the shoulders and waist.
bodice fabric is soft rayon crepe and as such, gathers beautifully into yokes and under bust. The skirt fabric is a stretch crepe. The touch of spandex means it will stretch a little to accommodate waist variances.

This dress is free fitting on hips due to the swing skirt and skims the waist. The bust area is fairly generous but is more fitted than it looks. It is also very fitted under the bust and feedback tells us that this area can be a little tight. For this reason, we strongly suggest that you select your size through the bust measurements.
Style suits pear shapes, hourglass and pillar most.
Fabric has no stretch in it.

This Grable tea dress ensemble is perfect. Not only is the style and poppy fabric design faithful to the 1940s, the weight and feel of the fabric is so vintage.
I ordered following the online size guide. Im 5’ 7” and the dress skims just below my knee which feels the perfect length for the style - so proportionally very well designed.
I’m a typical pear shape - top 10/hips 12 - so opted for a size 12 which fits like a glove. The quality and attention is so high a standard the ensemble feels as if it’s been made to measure. The top fits me perfectly although I think you would need to size up if you were a 12 in the bust area. The waist is very well fitted and so defining it’s simply gorgeous. The skirt being free flowing skims my hips without any cling. In all the dress enhances my shape beautifully.
The jacket formalises the outfit. The jacket sits across my shoulders well and falls naturally at just below bust level. It would easy adapt to wearing with high waisted trousers and skirts as well do offers great flexibility and value. The tailoring and lining are both beautiful.
The black fabric colour is a true coal black and is well matched to the black fabric print. The poppy design is very vintage and the colour combination suits my colouring.
Overall the ensemble worn together exudes style and class. Throw off the jacket and you have the perfect swing dance dress due to weight and movement of the fabric. Couldn’t be more happy.
