An exquisite little late 30s tea dress that flatters and has some stunning details.
Another winning combination of top quality craftmanship combined with a plethora of 1930s features and topped of with a vintage style fabric that behaves as it should. Again - we have not held back on detail with this dress.
This is a most flattering cut and is influenced by the the late 1930s dress styles worn from 1938 through into the wartime period. This dress has been designed to be as faithful as possible to these styles.
Dress has a high back neckline which hugs the back of the neck but alllows the deep plunging cross over neckline to remain demure and not too revealing. Bodice of dress is based on an original vintage 1930s nightwear garment and as a result has authentic detailed gathers into the shoulder and top stitched. The cute cap sleeves hug the shoulder and create an elegant silhouette. Gathers under bust creates a flattering line into a slimming fit around the waist through the fitted waistband. With a sweeping 7-gore skirt to float you through any tea dance.
Key Features Include:-
- plunge neckline
- top stitching on shirring at shoulder and waist
- sweeping 7-gore skirt
- side zip
- lined skirt
The fabrics is a mid weight 100% rayon (viscose) and as such gathers beautifully into yokes and under bust - is similar to the fabrics worn at this time. In our seasonal colour: mustard. Lining is a woven viscose.
Proudly made in the UK
Fabric: 100% Viscose throughout
Washing instructions: dry clean only (we recommend dry cleaning due to the bias cut panels in the skirt & skirt lining which can become mis-shapen after washing and in particular line drying)
Length from natural waist: approx 25 inches
This dress is free fitting on hips due to the swing skirt. The bust area is fairly generous but will gape if the bust is too full. Waist band is fitted and for this reason, we strongly suggest that you select your size through the waist measurements and if unsure - opt for a size up.
Style suits most shapes.
Fabric has no stretch in it - so if you are between sizes - it would be advisable to select the size above.
Please refer to the table below as a size guide.
A beautiful dress that looks much better on that expected. Being a huge fan of teh Grable dress i had avoided the Ava for a while as i was not convinced that i would be able to get into it. I don't usually like dresses that invlove putting them on over your head as i tend to get claustraphobic, get makeup all over them and struggle to get my shoulders through. I needn't habe worried though as it's not half as tricky as it seems and the dress looks so lovely on creating a very flattering look as it seems to nip in the waist. I love the colour too, it really stands out and i am definately now an Ava convert. When i bought this dress i was between 2 sizes and went with the larger size which turned out to be the right choice.
I'm a dressmaker and normally make most clothes by myself.
But I admired the dresses from "The House of Foxy" for a long time and when I had the chance to try this one I was instantly in love.
It fits perfectly and I feel gorgeous wearing it.
The quality is really good and I like the fact that the dresses are made in UK!
