We are thrilled to annouce the arrival of our 40s inspired swing pants!
These have been painstakingly researched and are adapted from a late 30s pattern. With a few tweaks here and there, the pattern has been altered enough to fit the modern woman and our modern eye without compromising the vintage details.
High waisted with four lovely quality shell buttons on the left. Wide leg with turn-up at the bottom. So comfy and perfect for dancing!
Key vintage features:-
- high waisted
- 4 shell button fastening on side
- turn up
- wide leg
These are a mid weight fabric, warm but breatheable. Rayon/poly mix with a little bit of spandex for stretch, hand wash recommended.
Inside leg 31 inches, select size by natural waist measurements.
Made in Europe
These trousers are high waisted -approx. 1 inch above natural waist. Trousers can be harder to fit people due to there being extra measurements to consider such as body length as well as waist, hip and thigh. However, this style has proved very popular and seems to fit people well.
The leg width isn't as wide as our 30s styles (fabric wasn't as readily available in the 40s!) but measures 56cms at the widest leg width part on our size 10.
So - we advise to choose by waist size but also to consider hip and your thigh measurement. This is not a great style for pear shapes but great for pillar shapes or inverted triangles.
Our trousers are made with fabric that has a touch of stretch in it - we call this a 'comfort stretch'. This means that there is a little margin if your measurements don't come up exactly like our size guide.
For more information on fit and sizing please visit our size guide. The measurements refer to 'your' body not the garment itself. Please choose the size that most reflects your measurements.
I was stunned to try these on and discover they fit so well. I'm accustomed to the junk quality of U.S. repro clothing, I suppose. Love everything about these trousers-- the flattering fit, the way the buttons (and space between the buttons) lie flat with no awkward gapping, the weight and comfort of the fabric, and most of all, the price. With the affordability factored in, I feel like I can wear these to walk my dogs or run to the grocery store in style, as well as to the office (whenever it reopens). I'm 5'1" (will have to have these hemmed, but no biggie), 117 lbs, with an hourglass shape and the size 10 are PERFECT. Will buy more in the other lovely colors available.
Let me tell you about how much I love these pants: I voluntarily hand-wash them. I. Do. Not. Hand-wash. Not anything, not ever - I am LAZY and that is EFFORT - but these? The care instructions say hand-wash, so I hand-wash. And not only that, but I am thinking about getting MORE pairs, even knowing full well that I'm going to have to hand-wash those as well!
On to a slightly more helpful review: I've had these pants for about a year and a half and have worn them constantly, and am pleased to report that they have held up wonderfully. The fabric is lovely - flowy enough to make the silhouette elegant rather than stodgy, as can happen with wide-legged pants, but still substantial enough to be warm and comfortable. And while I was worried about the fit due to the fact that I have what the kids are calling "thunder thighs", the fit is true to the sizing guide and very flattering on me. The turn up at the bottom is sewn in place, so you don't need to worry about knocking it out of place with daily wear and then never being able to get it to sit right again. The only thing keeping them from being objectively perfect is the glaring lack of a pocket, but I suppose one can't have everything.
