The iconic 1930s Beach Pyjama in our stunning 'Deco Dot' print.
Whether holidaying abroad, lounging at home or out for a sunday picnic, these beach pyjamas somehow manage to bring ultimate glamour to casual dressing in the most fanastic way!
In the late 1920s and into the 1930s, casual wear started to become more acceptable and the beach pyjama or lounge ensemble, as it was sometimes called, started to appear in fashion journals. Many vintage fashion fans will have come accross many photographs from the 1930s featuring an array of splendid examples of this amazing fashion phenomenon.
During the 30s, sailor styles became popular and our design echos this with the drop tie, extra wide leg and colouring. There are nearly 3 metres of fabric in these beach pyjamas! Note also the handy patch pockets on the front for extra detailing.
These are loose fitting with a stretchy waist, the back is an envelope opening - meaning you just step into them. The bodice is intended to blouson over to give a flattering 'nipped in' waist.
We've added a kimono style jacket in line with many original examples we have seen. Its a fabulous lightweight style to keep the sun (or the evening chill) off the arms and upper back.
Our design is simple yet still exudes 1930s details including:-
- nautical sailor style neckline
- gathered waist to give a flexible fit
- envelope back neckline
- very wide leg
- made in rayon crepe for proper vintage style drape
- contrast edging on neckline
- kimono jacket with contrast piping around neckline
- inner leg length approx. 31 inches, full leg from waist approx. 41 inches
Fabric: 100% viscose
Care: cool hand wash or dry clean (3% shrinkage may occur) - iron to bring shape back

This set is absolutely stunning with details everywhere. It really has that Phryne Fisher vibe and it is also quite comfy to wear. The back is a bit revealing when like me you don’t have much bust to begin with, so people may glimpse your bras…it would be truly perfect if the House of Foxy offered two leg lengths instead of just one standard : I am quite small and have to remove 4 inches at the bottom(and crepe is a pain to sew). Otherwise I am in love 🥰
Just received my long awaited pyjamas today. Covid meant the mail to NZ was slow but I got them at last! I love them but for one minor thing - I would have preferred the back opening to have a small dome fastening to ensure the two parts close high enough to cover a bra strap. I ordered a medium that was a perfect fit apart from the back gaping too much and hanging down too low. I don't have a large bust but I presume most women would want to wear a bra with this superb outfit. I will get my husband to mark where I should sew on a small dome fastening so the back closes higher up my back but still has the soft drape of the fabric. Now all I have to do is wait for our weather to get warmer. NZ has a superb Art Deco festival in February in our Summer so can't wait to show them off then!
